Just an update

Pockets has seemed to do alot better since the mediciation and careful attention. However it seems in this past week she is more distant than ever. She goes around licks everything, running into walls again, and is not aware of her surroundings. No circles that I have seen this week

Best day yet

Woke up this morning, and got Pockets out of her kennel. She used the bathroom in the middle of the night again, expected from the drugs. Picked her up, and took her outside, both number one and two. Gave her some good treats, and gave her water and breakfast.

She is keeping her balance so much better today. She is not slidding around as much when she ate. She is is still there, but still a bit off in lala land.

She did have a pre seizure today after breakfast. It only lasted about 15 seconds. She hasnt had one since.

Morning time!

Morning as usual, woke up and took the dogs out and gave pockets the pills. She is still larthargic, but ran around and stared at me forever. Took her back inside with no bathroom evidence from her in the yard, picked her up and noticed that she went both in the Kennel. She has never done that before, and that scares me.

Put new clean blankets in the Kennel and blanket, and placed her in the other kennel. After feeding and making a 2nd attempt Pockets went both outside. Brought her back inside, let her drink some water and put her back in the kennel so she cant hurt herself. Petted with her and sat with her for about 10 minutes, she finally falls asleep.

What pockets does, and how it relates

This is not for the weak hearted. This is my Pockets after having a meal.

The night so far

Brought Pockets out for a bit, she has been in her kennel to prevent her from running into things. She is doing allright, however, she is walking alot in circles. That kinda scares me.

My worst fear

PDE: Just the Facts
Pug Dog Encephalitis (PDE) is probably a Pug owners greatest concern and worst fear. Unfortunately, very little is known about this disease, however what is known, for certain, is presented here for the benefit of Pug owners and those considering Pugs as their breed of choice. Please note that this article serves only as an introduction to, and general description of PDE. For information on PDE in greater detail, consult veterinary sources found in your local library or on reputable internet sites.

What we do know about PDE is that it is an inflammation of the brain that strikes adolescent Pugs usually between the ages of 2 and 3. What causes this inflammation, in Pugs, and at this age range in particular is all unknown to this date.

Pockets is home

Pockets came home again today, she slept most of the way home and is now resting and enjoying extra attention.

No Word Yet

The hospital hasnt called me back yet. I just called them for the 2nd time, and they are very busy from what I was told. I just get a return call around 4pm. I hope she is doing okay, Im sure if something was wrong they would have called me by now.

Back to the hospital

Well around 5 pm she had 3 mild pre seizures in 15 minutes. The doctors told me to call if she had more than 3 in 24 hours. When I called they asked to bring her in. Pockets is now back in the hospital with Valium drip to help seize the episodes. The doctor will call me first thing in the morning with more details.

Pockets- Just another day until...

This blog is about my puppy Pockets that was born on December 25, 2007. She arrived in my care 3 months later. She was a very active and playful puppy and took a while to actually start growing up, but she was a very great dog, and still is.

Something changed her life completely. We played with her like we did everyday, running around the room while she chases us and barks at us. We stopped and I went to get laundry in the washing machine. When I close the door I pan my vision to look her, and she was approaching me and slowly collapsed and just whimpered and trembling. Something was wrong, and I don’t know what happened.

We rushed her to the emergency vet clinic and there, she was showing signs of being lethargic and unresponsive to our calls. After 3 hours later, blood work was done from the emergency vet care and the pup started acting kinda normal again. Everything appeared normal from her bloodwork. The doctor suspected it was a seizure and I was advised to seek my vet in the morning. Pockets the pug was injected with some fluids to prevent dehydration, and she started to act normal, as she was the day before.

Friday-

Woke up as usual with the pup, and saw that nothing had appeared to be wrong anymore. She would play with our other dog and just act normal as could be. Used the bathroom, ate, played, slept completely normal.

Saturday-

She slept most of the day, started to do some minor trembleming at night, and would go away after a period of 2-5 minutes. I thought it would be similar to after shocks from a seizure.

Sunday-

Slept all day. She was lethargic once again, and would whimper time to time, and go right back to sleep, would drink but wouldn’t eat or use the bathroom. I called my Vet to schedule an appointment for the next day.

Monday-

Went to the vet. He suscepeted something to be wrong with neurologically. (Brain problems) We scheduled an appointment to the closest and only place that would be capable of conducting an MRI and Spinal tap.

Animal Hospital-

Something was seriously wrong with the pup, Pockets. An MRI was done on the puppy and showed major signs of swelling on the right side of the brain.

Pockets was to remain at the hospital for the next 3 days, to complete more tests. While in their care, she remained to have seizures and was being treated by Diazepam, Clindamycin and Prednisone. Her seizures started to wear down and she started to become active and started to walk in straight lines and her eyes were more properly set. She was to return home on Thursday.

Thursday-

She came home. She was still kinda out of it from the drugs but she seemed to be happy to come home. As soon as we arrived home she had a minor seizure in the garage. It lasted about 20 seconds. After it was over she started running the yard and used the bathroom immediately. Proud of her duties, she runs back to me and walks by my side to the house. She seemed to be normal, but with seizure.

We started walking around the house, and she started to be wobbly. She cant keep a good balance sometimes. She will run into her water dish, and then I rush to hold her up. She is responsive, she plays, and chews on her toys, and she is hungry and thirsty all the time. I mean all the time. Sat with her for the rest of the afternoon on my bed. I watched her while she slept to make sure she wouldn’t fall off. She slept for about 4 hours.

Day #1 Back from the Hospital

Well not much sleep for me last night, Pockets woke up about ever other hour whinning and crying, looking to get more water than what was already in the kennel. There was a seizure around 4am and then it went away about 10-15 seconds later.

Medicine was given around 8:00am. Since then, She had been passed out until 11:00am when the crying started again.

Took her to go potty. She did both, and was very proud!
